John\u2019s experience of running his own farm now spans 35 years. And before he took over the farm he worked on other farms, including much bigger ones in Cork.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a little different,\u201d John said. \u201cBut it was great experience to bring back to Donegal.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI have very fond memories of working on the farm alongside my father as a child. I loved digging for spuds. But I have to admit it was a lot different back then. There wasn\u2019t that much to do, not like today. <\/em><\/p>\n \u201cBack then, the farm was only on lease, but we eventually became owners and grew it by buying more pieces. After my father passed away, I was farming on my own with my mother, but I would have taken over the farm at some stage anyway.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n John\u2019s son, John Jr, followed in his father\u2019s footsteps though he travelled much farther afield to gain experience. He spent a year working on a dairy farm in New Zealand before returning to his hometown.<\/p>\n John Sr. says the learnings his son brought back from that year have had a positive impact on the business.
